How does Lactation Lab’s nutritional analysis work? 

Lactation Lab analyzes breast milk for basic nutritional content like calories and protein, as well as vitamins and fatty acids. Results are then delivered in a user-friendly report that reads like a food label. As part of the analysis, Lactation Lab provides insights on how results might affect your baby and provides you with recommendations for enhancing the quality of your milk.

Lactation Lab offers two options for nutritional analysis: 

• Basic Test Kit: The Basic Kit tests for calories, carbohydrates, protein and fat content present in your milk.
• The Standard Kit: The Standard Kit tests for the same nutritional content as the basic kit, but also includes levels of calcium, iron, vitamins A, C and B-12. This kit may not be available through all employers.

Most moms test their milk twice using the first test to establish a nutritional baseline and the second test to see the impact of their dietary and lifestyle changes on the composition of their breast milk

Once I’ve sent my milk in, how long does it take to get my results? 

Once you've shipped your sample to Lactation Lab using the prepaid shipping envelope, it takes approximately 7 business days to process the sample in the lab. Once Lactation Lab has completed testing, the results (in the form of a PDF) will be emailed to you immediately.

How much milk is needed for the analysis?

The Basic and Standard kits require filling one 1 oz (30 ml) sample tube.

Will I be billed for my Lactation Lab kits? 

No. Your employer covers the full cost of Lactation Lab kits ordered via the Milk Stork Portal.
